My Life Savers

I hate to remember my life back in 2004. They were the worst days of my life, when I was in 11th and 12th Junior College. I completed my schooling in Kalyan, but then dad brought this new big house in Navi-Mumbai and we shifted to our new house as soon as my 10th Board exams got over. All over vacation, waiting for my 10th results to come out, I use to spend my time working in our new garden. Planting new flower plants, cleaning garden and playing with our new pup were my only time pass back then.

The result came out and I joined Junior college opting for Science stream. Before joining college, I was very nervous (the usual anxiety we all get when we are going to totally new place). This city was clearly new for me. My old school friends were in Kalyan and here I didn’t had any friend so far. I remember calling my best friend from school and wishing her luck for the first day in the college. On the contrary, she was excited and happy because she had our other school mates to go along with her.
To be frank, forget my first day but the rest of the year went boring. I failed to make new friends in this new place. I did try my best to start a conversation with new people, sharing my interest, laughing at their not-so-funny jokes, greeting them good morning and good byes, but that was it. I noticed even before joining college, they had their own group (a close group who clearly said no entry for newcomers). Out of curiosity, I asked few students that how they made such a great group.
They just use to smile and reply “Oh! This is our school group.
And I knew the answer – I was an outsider. It irritated me to the core and somehow I started blaming this new house for my loneliness.
I started thinking “If dad had not brought this new house, we would have never left Kalyan (the city where I grew and the place where my friends are enjoying their college).”
By 12th, I accepted the fact that all the students around me would only say good morning and good byes, but they would never include me in their group, share their jokes, ask me for trips etc.
Somehow, I accepted my loneliness and started spending lot of time with my dog – Blacky. Ofcourse, she was the only one who didn’t had the so called GROUP and was available for me 24*7.
(Blacky is no more, she died on 28 April 2007 due to Throat Cancer. But this friend stays in my heart for lifetime).

The worst two years of my life ended with HSC(Higher Secondary Board) exams and I was again sitting at home waiting for results. Remembering those days, I only have two words –
1. Loneliness. 2. Depression.
The whole idea of college being a FunZone became myth for me and I somehow accepted the fact that the college life they show in movies and television serials is mere fiction.
I thought I was incapable of making friends back then.

So, my routine was to attend college, come home, study and sleep. Boring, right?
But then something good came out of it. As I got lot of free time for myself (with none of my friends calling me, meeting me), I grabbed a book and started reading it. I remember the first book which I read was Jurassic Park by Micheal Crichton. Slowly, I started developing interest in reading. The next book I read was Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and this book was gifted to me by my school on occasion of farewell party. And it was kept in my drawer untouched until my HSC vacations. As the time passed by, I got a habit of reading a book daily and this is how I got my life saver and my best friend.
So, from this day I never felt a need of friend to be specific.

When I joined my degree college (BSC IT), surprisingly I made loads of friends just in one day. And within a month, I had my own group of friends, who are still with me now. Friends who use to call me, plan trips with me, pull my leg, laugh at me and cry with me. But in all this I never forgot my special friend – books. I still use to read books in my degree college and my friends never use to understand why I am so crazy about them. They still call me “book worm”.

So, in all this I know one thing for sure – you have friends or you don’t have, books and animals are always your life savers.

What do you want to do before you die?

Yesterday night out of boredom, I decided to watch a movie. I picked “Anjaana Anjaani” (no specific reason, just that I haven’t seen it before).
One question, asked in a movie, grabbed my attention – “What do you want to do before you die?
Well, it made me think and I realised that I don’t have my ‘Things to do before I die’ list ready with me. I grabbed a piece of paper and pen and jotted down few wishes.

- World Tour
- Sky Diving
- Deep water diving (now that I know how to swim :D)
- Do snow ball fights.

And the list is endless, however my life is not! (Ek zindagi hazaar kaam, kind of thing).
Being a facebook addict, I asked this question to the people on my friend list and I got very interesting answers and not to mention loads of answers in the comment box.
Different people, different wishes. However, one thing is common among us – endless wishes!

When I was jotting down my ‘Things to do before I die list’, a thought crossed my mind.
“What if these wishes are not fulfilled?” I wondered.
Obviously, I will end up being unhappy and disappointed.
As an immediate reaction, I gave a big cross mark on the list and tossed the paper in the dustbin. One thing I learned out of this – Why not just live life as it comes? Why to waste my time in making endless wishes and worrying about them.

What do you think? Living with a pre-planned life is good OR living a life planned by god is better?

Cause for Nothing...

Save Tigers!!
Educate girl child!!
Stop leather trade!!
Stop sending your parents in old age homes!!
Stop assaulting animals!!

These are the causes we often join and like on facebook. But then what next?
Will the tigers be saved once you like that cause page on facebook?
Will the child be educated once you join this cause page?

For those who think they will, my answer is NO.
I am sorry it may sound harsh but NO leather trade won’t stop!!! NO the child wont get the books if you like that page…
So, why are we all joining? What’s the use? Because once we join we forget about it.
Or is it just to show how sensitive you are and how much you care about animals and children?

Well, the person liking Stop leather trade page has a leather wallet in his back pocket of jeans and probably wearing leather shoes. The person may join Stop assaulting animals page but if any street dog comes in his way his first reacting will be - throwing stone at the poor animal.

This post is not to point out to someone, but it’s just a small effort to tell that there are some things which can’t be achieved by liking any pages or joining any group. We need to keep in mind all this and act as if everyday we have undertaken a cause.
God has given us enough that we are writing and reading the blogs and not to forget liking the pages on facebook… it means that we have more potential just than liking the page.
So, why not start it from today? If we like the cause and feel from heart that yes we should stop this injustice…then start with yourself and people around you.
I am sure every person who is working has enough salary to help a girl child in her education. Then why not pay fees of poor kids who can’t attend school due to lack of money?
Well I don’t say joining any cause on facebook is bad… but if you are joining then act on it. And join when you really mean it!!!

Just a little change can make difference…now it’s on us how and where to make the change.

That day I realised...

A guest post by my friend "Random Thinker".

It was raining heavily since last night. Almost 8:30 Am and it was still dark outside. I was in hurry to catch my bus to go to office.  I took rickshaw from my house till bus depot. I secured myself from rain by standing in queue under bus stop roof.  People were standing quietly in queue waiting for bus, some enjoying rain and some getting irritated.  Suddenly rain stopped and we all got blessed by sun shine.

I was happy that rain finally stopped and now I don’t have to be very cautious to protect myself from rain.  As I was enjoying the atmosphere and looking everywhere, I saw one boy standing at the corner of the bus depot. He was completely wet, had worn nothing but shorts, bare foot, shivering, it looked like he was out there in rain from past night.  I don’t know why but it gave me very disgusting feeling and I turned my face to opposite side.
People were making weird faces while looking at that boy and then were behaving like that boy doesn’t exist.  From corner of my eye I again dare to  looked at that boy , he was shivering badly and it seemed that he had not ate anything (might be he is hungry from past 1,2 .. , I don’t know how many days).

Our bus came at bus stop and every one hurried to get into the bus. Suddenly that boy also moved towards the bus and tried to get into the bus. People started shouting on him. The bus conductor came and scolded on that boy and asked him to go away from the bus. The scared boy moved away from bus, still shivering. I got into the bus and sat near window. Our bus started and as our bus moved I looked again at that boy, he was still there standing bare foot and looking at us with his big deep black eyes.  Suddenly I felt very bad, my heart started paining.

I asked one question to myself – Why I did not helped that boy? One cup of tea and some biscuits could have been great relief for him (and it could have cost me not more than Rs. 10), then why I did not do that? Is it because of money? No, of course not, Rs. 10 is not such a big deal for me. Then what was the issue?
I got my answer. I t was not the money or time issue. I did not helped that boy because I thought what other will thing if I helped that boy?  , what if somebody sees me with that boy? I did not helped that boy because everybody were hating him. I did not helped that boy because I thought he does not belong to us. Somewhere I challenged his existence also.  And as all these thoughts started coming into my head, I felt very shallow, selfish and fake. Here I am who always complain because 1/4th part of my pant got wet due to rain and there was a boy out there in rain from past night , standing quietly , looking at people with big hopeful eyes with hope that someone will help.

How many times it happens that we are in position to help others but by giving stupid excuses we just escapes from our responsibilities. I have made a biggest mistake, but I am ready to correct it by changing my attitude.  Change always should start from the man in the mirror.

Rising from scratch

Well this is my new blog, just two days old. I had 54 followers in my old blog and loads of genuine readers. What happened to my old blog? It is a very sad story…lets not go into details.

The other day when I tried accessing my blog, it was not there…(Lets not get into it, why and how). I was upset and devastated. All the data, all my posts and all my readers were gone just in no time…

So I asked myself “What now?” I got mails from my readers and readers turned friends, saying that we are not able to access your blog anymore. They were equally sad as I was. That moment was enough for me to decide “No problem, I will start a new one.

A fresh start is what I did with this blog. All those readers which I lost, some came back and supported me and if I have more good matter to share, more will soon come and join me. I trust myself.

Well all this experience was different for me. Before this incident I felt blogs are for sharing, following and commenting. But soon I realize it is beyond that. I realize blogs are also for bonding. Bonding with your readers and bonding with other writers.

So from all this experience I felt like Phoenix.
Phoenix - a mythical bird who rises again from his own ashes.

A beautiful quote from Anne Baxter :

It's best to have failure happen early in life.

It wakes up the Phoenix bird in you so you rise from the ashes.

Have you come across any situation in your life, where you felt in same way- rising from scrap?

Just Kidding!!!!

My friends and I were on a trip to riverside when I saw one of my friend throwing pebbles in pond. I could tell from her face that she was enjoying this childish act. I could not stop asking her what was so interesting about this.

Here, take this and try yourself”, she gave me one small pebble.
I laughed seeing that pebble and thought “What am I doing” but just for sake I threw it in water without any enthusiasm. Obviously it didn’t go too far.

Come on, you can do better. Put some energy and throw it far” teased my friend.
I picked small pebble lying on the ground nearby. This time with little interest.
AND Splashhhhh!!! It jumped two times on water and went far enough from first one.

Third pebble
Fourth pebble
Fifth!!
And on and on….I was in game....
I felt like I am throwing my frustration and worries in water far away from me. We laugh when someone around us start acting childish but once we try the same we know how much refreshing and rejuvenating it is. There is child in all of us, sitting quietly in one corner of our heart and impatiently waiting to get release and enjoy. This incident helped me setting lose a child inside me. Now most of time I am kid more than adult. Feels good.....

Her First glance

It was raining heavily that night. I my cellphone network was down. I saw a telephone booth on the other side of the road. “I should call dad, he must be waiting for my call”, I thought. I ran towards the telephone booth in the heavy rain. Dailed my father’s number...his phone was ringing.

I glanced outside on the main road, it was clear, no traffic at all. And then a white car stopped on main road. A young girl got down from the car. Nearby some kids were enjoying the rain...jumping, dancing and playing in the heavy shower. She was enjoying their dance standing in heavy rain. And then all of a sudden she took off her sandle and joined them. Like a kid she freed herself, jumped and danced enjoying the rain… I was just staring at her, as if something struck me.

Hello…Hello…”, I heard my dad’s voice coming from phone

I was not able to take my eyes off her. She looked so beautiful dancing in the rain. So pure, so elegant...

Dad, It’s me, Delhi from Maddy”, like an idiot I jumbled words. But I was too busy and engrossed in the scene.

Hello Maddy…Hello...you there?”, my dad recognized my voice.

I was bewitched and then I knew she was the one I was waiting for

Dad, I saw her”, I said to my dad on phone.

Who???”, my dad was confused on my funny statement.

My kind of girl”, I confessed to him.

And then she moved towards her car ready to go...

Dad she is going….going” I felt like losing her...
